PILS-X Extended-Reach Push Logging System

High-temperature, high-pressure, high-strength logging for long-reach horizontal wells — 200 °C / 170 MPa, 20 t tensile and compressive rating.

The PILS-X system was developed to solve a problem that has limited extended-reach logging for years. In long-reach horizontal wells, conventional tool strings are long and relatively fragile — the weakest section may be rated for as little as 500 kg of compression — so tools are easily damaged and the logging job cannot be completed.

PILS-X is fully compatible with the 5700 logging system. The main body is Ø96 mm, with tensile and compressive ratings of 20,000 kg, a temperature rating of 200 °C and a pressure rating of 170 MPa. It operates in both wireline and memory modes, and is suited to conventional wells as well as to harsh high-angle and long-reach horizontal wells. Log quality is consistent with conventional 5700 wireline data.

The neutron tool uses a retrievable design, reducing the risk of a radioactive source being lost downhole. In memory mode the tool string is connected directly to the drill pipe, so data can be recorded while running in and again while pulling out — two logging passes in a single trip — which improves both operational reliability and curve quality.

HRSG-1C High-Resolution Sonic Eight-Sector Cement Bond Logging Tool

Integrated CBL/VDL and eight-sector sonic measurement, 175 °C / 140 MPa, compatible with 530 and most domestic logging systems.

The HRSG-1C combines a sonic array, a lower electronics section (transmit circuit) and an upper electronics section (receive circuit), connected into a single unit through high-temperature, high-pressure sealed pins. It integrates conventional high-resolution sonic logging with eight-sector sonic logging.

The sonic array is a single-transmitter, five-receiver design. The eight-sector receiving transducers are set at a 1.5 ft source distance and consist of eight individual elements. HRSG-1C can be run on the 530 system and on most domestic logging systems.

Applications

  • Travel-time logging — determine formation lithology along the well profile, estimate reservoir porosity and identify gas-bearing zones.
  • Eight-sector logging — the short source distance reveals problems in the cement bond and provides directional information.

FH-HEDL High-Temperature, High-Pressure Slimhole Dual Laterolog

Dual laterolog with two depths of investigation for high-resistivity formations and low-mud-resistivity wells — 230 °C / 172 MPa in a Ø70 mm tool.

The HEDL dual laterolog measures formation resistivity at two different radial depths of investigation using a radial series principle, with two operating frequencies allowing simultaneous measurement. The difference between the shallow and deep resistivity is used to calculate water saturation and to distinguish oil-bearing from water-bearing zones. The tool is well suited to formations with high resistivity and to wells with low mud resistivity.

The tool is powered at 200 V DC and communicates over the 1553 bus. The electronics include transmit power control, deep and shallow drive circuits, voltage and current detection circuits, deep voltage correction, data conversion and communication, and power supply circuits.

FH-DIR High-Temperature, High-Pressure Slimhole Azimuth and Deviation Tool

Deviation, tool face, borehole azimuth and pad-1 azimuth derived from three orthogonal magnetic and gravity sensors — 230 °C / 172 MPa.

FH-DIR uses three mutually orthogonal magnetic sensors and three mutually orthogonal accelerometers to form two spatial coordinate systems, acquiring three geomagnetic components (magx, magy, magz) and three gravity components (ACCX, ACCY, ACCZ) in the prescribed installation orientation.

Taking the local geomagnetic field and gravitational acceleration as constant within a region, the geometric relationships among these six components are used to compute deviation, relative bearing (tool face), borehole azimuth and pad-1 azimuth. Together these four angles provide a complete picture of the tool string's position downhole.

iDL Through-Drillpipe Dual Laterolog (uTHRU-uDL)

Through-drillpipe dual laterolog with SP — 0.2 to 40,000 Ω·m, 175 °C / 140 MPa, Ø57 mm.

The iDL through-drillpipe dual laterolog string consists, from bottom to top, of a dual laterolog probe (iDL-M), dual laterolog electronics (iDL-E), an insulated sub, hard electrode 3 (iRB-SP), hard electrode 2 (iRB-B) and hard electrode 1 (iRB).

The tool provides two resistivity curves at different depths of investigation plus an SP curve. Combined with other logs it allows permeable zones to be identified, oil-water contacts to be determined, and formation hydrocarbon potential to be evaluated accurately.

The tool string applies a defined algorithm to the measured current and voltage to control laterolog power, improving power output and the received signal-to-noise ratio. Dual guard electrodes focus the main current, reducing the influence of the cable, formation and mud. The electrodes use stainless steel with fibreglass-reinforced insulating sleeves — corrosion-resistant and easy to service.

Φ22 MPT Multi-Parameter Production Logging Tool (Simplex Pulse Code)

Seven-parameter production profiling through the annulus — CCL, temperature, pressure, gamma, water holdup, flow and density in a Ø22 mm tool.

The 22MPT comprises a temperature/pressure/CCL combination tool (22PTC), a water-holdup/flow combination tool (22WHF), a micro-source density tool (22RFD) and a gamma ray tool (22GR). Auxiliary tools include a cable head, a tracer tool (22TR), a flow basket (22DB) and a flex sub.

Applications

  • Measurement of downhole CCL, temperature, pressure, natural gamma, water holdup, flow velocity and fluid density.
  • 22PTC — the CCL controls logging depth and provides depth correction during interpretation. The temperature tool records the gradient created by fluid entering or leaving the wellbore. The pressure tool records the pressure profile around the wellbore.
  • 22GR + 22TR — important for water-entry and leak-detection work. In annular logging, where sand production in heavy oil can disable a turbine flowmeter, the combination replaces turbine flow measurement and improves job success.
  • 22WHF + 22DB — through-annulus production logging, accurately measuring water holdup and flow rate between casing and tubing; suitable for low-flow wells.
  • 22RFD — multiphase production profiling, fluid identification and high-flow-rate measurement.
